Welcome to my JJBA Shrine!

This shrine is currently a work-in-progress. This is the first 'phase' - feel free to check out my little favorites, etc page - more will be added in the next few weeks!

What is Jojo?

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is a long-running shonen/horror/supernatural manga written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki that began it's run in December, 1986. The manga has 8 completed parts, with a 9th one currently being released as I create this shrine.

Jojo is well-known for it's Poses (you may have heard the term "Jojo pose" around the net), artstyle and Araki's implementation of his love for Western Culture. Many of the characters and stands are named after bands, musicians and fashion brands. Araki also has a passion for art and has collaborated directly with The Louvre and Gucci. This article goes into more depth on Araki's inspirations from the art and fashion world.

The series - despite it's huge popularity in Japan - didn't get a full animated adaption until the 2012 release of the Phantom Blood animation, followed by the other parts over the last decade. Before this, however, there were a few attempts to bring Jojo to the screen. In the 90s there was an OVA created depicting the last few arcs of Stardust Crusaders, but due to it starting in the middle of the story and having a limited release it did not garner a huge audience and was not very successful. In 2007 a Phantom Blood movie was released. This movie has a good amount of mystery surrounding it, as most of the film is considered lost media - with only a few promotinal clips, screenshots and interviews surviving. Theres's also a live-action Diamond is Unbreakable movie that I can't say much on because I have not seen it yet.
